Tokidoki x Lovehoney Girl Power Vibrator review: Pyro & Bandita

I had never even heard of Tokidoki until I was contacted by Lovehoney to review these brand new vibrators, so I did a little research. Tokidoki, although a Japanese word meaning “sometimes”, was actually a brand developed by an Italian man called Simone Legno, inspired by Japanese culture and street art. The brand is of a world of fun looking characters, including the moofia (a kind of cow mafia), and donutella (characters covered in donuts). These characters have been used to brand near to everything including bags, baby clothes, toys, shoes, pillows, and my personal favourite this whole tent:

Seriously, imaging the hours of fun you could have trying to name every character on this thing! (Image taken from: shop.tokidoki.it)

I am so pleased that tokidoki have teamed up with lovehoney to bring their world of weird and wonderful characters to the sex toy industry. They’ve put them on almost everything else, sex toys was just the next logical step! I have to warn you now, this post is going to be very image heavy (sorry people with slow internet!), mainly because the main joy about these new toys is how they look. The detail and colour is incredible! I don’t think my poor photography skills really do these two toys justice.

The two characters I got sent are called Pyro (left) and Bandita (right). Given their names and pictures I’m guessing Pyro is some kind of fire devil (she has horns, flames behind her and a little devil listening to a ipod on her shoulder), and Bandita I’m guessing is meant to be a bandit (she is wearing all black including a mask and her tummy is full of treasure). From the packaging I can see six female characters, suggesting that there are four more exciting designs to choose from.

The vibrators come in fun brightly coloured cardboard sleeves, with the vibrator showcased in the middle in plastic. They’re really simple to open, you can just pull up the cardboard tab at the very top, unfold the top and then pull the plastic the vibrator is in out like from an envelope. Although simple, the packaging really does add to the branding of the toy; it almost looks like the front of a comic book about female superheros, which I think is the kind of vibe they were going from (no pun intended). I mean, they called it “girl power vibe”!  The back has a simple blurb and another cool image of a tattooed woman wrapped in a snake for some reason. Underneath where the vibrator was is pictorial operating instructions.

Functionally these toys are identical, so I’m going to go on a lot about how they look before giving you the low down on how they work at the end. Lets start with Bandita.

Bandita is mainly black, with a masked face at the top, with her big blue eyes glancing sideways (to show she’s shifty perhaps?) and her lips covered in pink lip gloss (what bandit wouldn’t wear lip gloss?). One side has what looks like a weird string of pearls, (or is it an arm, I’m not sure), and the other has a diamond. At the very bottom is the Tokidoki logo of a heart and cross bones. The really fun detail on Bandita is her treasure at the bottom of the toy,  it’s full of happy smiling diamonds and jewels (I guess they wanted to be stolen?), and even a crown. The bright colours of the treasure are in beautiful contrast to the matt black of the rest of the toy.

Pyro is a lot more “busy” in design, and the little details on her is incredible. She is covered in tattoos, which are all really detailed, has little accessaries including her devil horns, a spiky red bracelet and a little Tokidoki logo hair clip. The background of the vibrator is a hot purple colour this time, with long thin red flames licking up behind Pyro and the Tokidoki heart and cross bones logo stands out in black at the very bottom of the toy.

I’ve tried to photograph all the little details on her so you can see them. The Tokidoki logo is hidden in a lot of places. Her tattooed arm includes more devil symbology, including a grinning horned demon face, flames, a little grim reaper, and flaming dice (because what warm blooded devil doesn’t enjoy a good gamble?). These symbols are mixed with more feminine cute little flowers and stars with little skulls in them. She has a kind of psychobilly punk rock feel to her, with the classic swallows on the collar bone tat, and a tear under her eye (at least I’m assuming that’s a tat, she could just be crying because she’s surrounded by flames). She’s got this little devil pet on her shoulder, which I’m guessing doesn’t tell her to do much because it’s listening to an ipod (because why the fuck not, maybe it recommends her evil tunes). Her eyes are closed and covered in black eye liner and bright blue eye shadow, and her lips are painted the same red as her devil horns. Her top has bright red stars over each boob, which is a little weird, but whatevs, maybe she likes to draw attention to them and away from the fire she presumably caused.

Both toys are made of a hard ABS skin safe plastic, which has been coated in a wonderfully soft material which makes them feel velvety soft to the touch. If I run my fingers across them I can feel the images are slightly raised, but the toy is incredibly smooth, there’s no real friction at all. There’s a metal ring at the bottom to separate the base from the toy. To get started you just unscrew the base of the toy and put in two AA batteries (these aren’t included so make sure you have some in, or just rob them from the TV remote) then screw it back on. It will only go on one way so pay attention to the little plastic raised bits inside it and make sure they are aligned properly before you try to twist it shut.

Operation is simple, you just push the button at the very base of the toy to start it vibrating away. It’s got 3 constant speeds, each more intense than the last, then it’s got three pulsating patterns (which I LOVE) and one oscillating pattern. This toy is not fucking about, those vibrations are really very powerful (in fact I think it’s the same motor as in the Mötley Crüe classic vibrators, although the Tokidoki vibes are slimmer and rounded at the end rather than tapered). The toys are fully waterproof, which is great, you can take them for shower fun times, and clean them throughly.

The toys are really smooth and easy to insert. The rounded end can be used as a large surface clitoral stimulator, it’s not great for precise stimulation, but with that much power I don’t think you need it (my clit can’t take the intensity of the Mötley Crüe classic vibrators tapered tip, but with those powerful vibes distributed over a larger area in the Tokidoki it feels great). I can easily use the first constant speed on my clit to bring me to a wonderful, full vulva orgasm. The vibrations are really deep and rumbly, combined with the smooth  rounded head it gives me the same kind of feeling as a mini magic wand vibrator. I found the best technique for a fantastic clitoral orgasm was to use the vibrator like a wand, and to “massage” my clit with it, applying some pressure and moving in circles.

Internally, the pulsating patterns work great for g-spot stimulation. The shaft is fairly slim and easy to insert into my vagina, and the toy is totally smooth. If you like some friction internally, this may not be the toy for you. However, as I’ve said many times already, this vibe is very powerful; those pulsating patterns made it feel like the toy is moving inside of me, and are more than enough to get me to a fantastic g-spot orgasm alone, no clit stimulation needed. I think another reason why the toy works so well for this, despite being straight and smooth, is that is is completely rigid, so I can grind against it and push a lot of pressure (and deep, rumbly, powerful vibrations) on to the front wall of my vagina. For me, that is the best technique; insert it, put pressure on the right place and let the vibrations do the work for you. Because it is smooth, straight and slim, thrusting this toy does not really do much.

As I have two of these, I could also experience the wonderful sensation of using one on my clit and one on my g-spot at the same time, which was AMAZING! I wouldn’t say they are the most discreet toys, the vibrations are fairly audible, which is the price you pay for all that power. However, it’s unlikely anyone will hear them through a closed door and heavy duvet.

To turn it off you just hold down the button for a few seconds and off it goes, easy! These toys even have a memory; when you turn it back on again it will come on with the last pattern you had on when you turned it off. This is a fun feature, but doesn’t really do much for me, as I always like to start on the lowest constant speed then move up to something more exciting or powerful. Saying that it doesn’t take long to scroll through the 7 functions to the one I want. Clean up is very easy as these toys are waterproof, you can give them a good clean with warm water and anti bacterial soap or sex toy cleaner.

Overall I think both Pyro and Bandita are fantastic toys! They are really unique looking, with fun designs and really intricate details. The motors in them are excellent, really powerful and rumbly, and they make great clitoral and g-spot stimulators. I love that they are waterproof, easy to use and take AA batteries.  I’d recommend them to anyone who likes the Tokidoki design and wants a really good vibrator.
