I have just finished watching SNAPSHOT and I’m so turned on I can barely write this. I seriously cannot stop smiling. It’s everything I long for in an adult movie, and then some. Do you love watching beautiful, sexy, likeable characters? Do you like your porn to be ethical, feminist, diverse and really fucking hot? Do you have a thing for thrillers and Hitchcock style suspense? If you answer yes to any of these questions, SNAPSHOT is the pornographic film for you!
SNAPSHOT is produced by Pink and White productions which is a fantastic adult film company who produce and promote high quality independant porn. In their own words:
“… porn sites often rely on insensitive language in categories and context that are offensive to people of color and trans folk, and assume a narrowly straight, cisgender white male audience. PinkLabel.tv exists because we want a site that is a better fit for our films and those of other filmmakers, as well as our audiences.
Our communities comprise queer, trans, and people of color, as well as older folks and people with disabilities, so we understand first-hand that porn is broader than the stereotypical audience market.”

SNAPSHOT is a 65 minute thriller starring Beretta James as Charlie, the hard-to-read aloof photographer, and Chocolate Chip as Danny, the warm and down-to-earth cop. For you thriller lovers, the underlying plot is that there’s a creepy white guy on the loose murdering people. Charlie inadvertently gets a snap of him with her fancy camera when she accidentally interrupts a couple having morning sex. Now he’s out to get her and does several creepy serial-killer type things as the story develops.
But that’s not what SNAPSHOT is all about. The suspense-filled-murderer thing is kind of beside the point. It’s really a story about the beginning of a relationship. It’s about the gradual exploration of sexual boundaries, and the build up of trust and intimacy between the two main characters. The wonderfully hot and original sex scenes in SNAPSHOT effortlessly flow, weaving throughout the plotline. They never feel awkward, forced, or beside the point. In fact, they are a necessary plot tool used to show you the development of Charlie and Danny’s relationship.

Like every good adult film, the sex scenes tease you at first, leaving you wanting more, then they build up and up until you’re left fully satisfied. They start off small, a snippet of a couple having sex, a clothed woman masturbating whilst Charlie photographs her, then they gradually get more intense, as we see Danny break down Charlie’s protective walls and they get more and more loving and intimate. I don’t want to give too much away, but there’s group sex, voyeurism, magic wands and strap on play! Every scene feels very real, the pleasure you are witnessing looks genuine, and the characters seem like they are really into each other. That’s what makes it so fucking hot to watch.
Although the film follows Beretta James (Charlie) throughout, I think Chocolate Chip (Danny) completely steals the show. Their acting is authentic, warm and believable. As soon as they appeared on screen, I was hooked. I wanted to be in Charlie’s shoes, getting to know and love this amazingly beautiful and charismatic character. And as the film shows me the world through Charlie’s eyes (or camera), in a way I was. I felt utterly immersed. Every part of Danny felt natural and relatable. So much so that I’ve developed a crush (you may have caught on to that).

Hannah (played by Lyric Seal) deserves a special mention as a perfect example of sex positivity. They’re the straight-talking best friend, who appears totally comfortable in their body and sexuality. Hannah organises an epic Halloween sex party, which offers a safe setting for Charlie and Danny to explore sexually. Their witty, endearing comments and gentle jabs at Charlie throughout the film give SNAPSHOT a sense of humor. Lyric Seal has an infectious smile and a welcoming personality, and as Hannah they seems to encourage safe sexual expression to everyone they speak to. I want to be their best friend and go to all their sex parties. I think I could watch them interact for hours.

The fantastic thing about SNAPSHOT is it didn’t just give me characters I want to have sex with, it gave me characters I want to get to know. Seriously, I want take every single one of them out for coffee and chat to them (other than the creepy murder guy, obviously). I want to go to their sex parties and explore with them. Overwhelmingly, I want them to be my group of sex-positive friends. I think director and writer Shine Louise Houston has done a fantastic job of creating an adult film that actually got me emotionally invested in the characters and the plot. Never once did I feel like I was just impatiently waiting for the next sex scene.

Overall, I feel like SNAPSHOT is an excellent celebration of queer sexual expression. It’s everything I look for in erotica, by which I mean genuine, positive, and hot as hell. I’ve never seen so many lovely queer women. The whole thing is beautifully shot and full of interesting locations. The roles are well acted and the dialogue feels warm and believable. I got completely immersed in SNAPSHOT. It left me broadly smiling and horny as fuck. It’s a perfect piece of erotic art. I can’t wait to watch it again.
