Most people (or those who can afford to buy high end sex toys) now have a smart phone and you can easily use the bluetooth on smart phones to control electronic devices. The creators of the Lovely cock ring have gone a step further than just using an app to control the device; it also receives information from the cock ring and then (tries) to use this information to offer you tips and advice to improve your sex life. I think that the biggest selling point of the lovely cock ring isn’t actually the cock ring, it’s the app that it comes with. The creators have branded it as “desire sensing”, which I think it pushing it a bit too far, but it’s still an interesting idea and one I think we will see more of in the future.

The Lovely cock ring comes in a simple white box. It’s nice and modern looking and pretty sturdy if you would like to use it for long term storage. This is good because the Lovely cock ring doesn’t come with a storage bag.

First Impressions

The Lovely cock ring comes with a USB charger and charging stand and a little instruction booklet. First impressions are good. I like the teal colour of the cock ring, the charging method is sensible because it means there’s no break in the silicone to push a charger in to. The cock ring is 100% waterproof, which is great for cleaning and sterilizing. The silicone feels nice and smooth to the touch, the ring itself is pretty stretchy, and the vibrating top part is a good shape with some very gentle ridges.

The Lovely cock ring sits nicely in its charging stand. You need to connect the charger to the back of the stand and plug the USB end into any USB port. I used a wall plug. If it is charging correctly a little LED will light up green at the bottom of the charger. It will flash whilst charging and stay fully on once charged. The initial charge takes a couple of hours.

Pairing with the App

You’ll first need to download the Lovely app on to your smart phone or tablet. You can find it on google play store or the apple store. It’s call “Your Lovely”. After you’ve installed it, make sure your blue tooth is switched on. Then you need to hold down the central button on the cock ring so that it switches on for 3 seconds. Then hold it again so it turns off. Your phone / tablet should now be able to find the Lovely cock ring and you can pair it.

Vibration settings and controls

You can control the Lovely cock ring either by pressing the central button, or by using the Lovely app. If you are controlling it by pressing the button, you will have access to the 7 different settings. You need to press the central button quite hard to get it to turn on or change settings. I understand why this is the case; if it was easy to press you’d end up accidentally changing setting whilst you were having sex. However, if you have problems with your grip or pain in your hands you might find the the Lovely cock ring difficult to control by just using the button.

The first three settings are constant vibrator modes, but instead of just ramping up intensity, they kind of stutter at a different rate. There are definitely ones that are more or less intense but it’s not a straight forward increase in intensity that I’m used to from vibrators. I do quite like this stuttering. The other three settings are oscilating patterns, that ramp up and down intensity in different ways. You click the button to scroll through each setting in order, and hold the button down for a few seconds to turn the Lovely cock ring off. It has a memory function, so it will turn back on again where you switched it off.

If you use the app to control the Lovely cock ring, not only is it easier than trying to press the button, you get more functions. Open the app and click on the “Remote” tab (you need to make sure you Lovely cock ring is paired and your bluetooth is switched on). Press the play button and the Lovely cock ring will begin to vibrate.

 

 

 

 

 

Along the bottom of the screen you have 7 images that represent the different modes (you’ll have scroll across to see them all). The four patterns are set, so clicking on any of these settings will just set them going and show you a visual representation of what the cock ring is doing. However, click on any of the first 3 stuttering settings and you’ll be able to create your own pattern or just change the intensity of the vibration by dragging the picture of the Lovely cock ring up and down the page. This is so simple to use, the cock ring is so responsive (it changes instantly!) and you can tailor the vibrations to exactly what you need. At a remote control, the app is getting full marks from me.

Using the Lovely Cock Ring for PiV Sex!

Before I go into more app-based features, I want to tell you how me and my penis-possessing partner got on with the Lovely Cock Ring during Penis in Vagina (PiV) sex. We found it pretty easy to get the Lovely Cock Ring to slide down his erect penis. We found that stretching it out then thrusting the penis as far as he could through the cock ring was a better method than adding lube to it and trying to slide it down. The Lovely cock ring sat quite snugly at the base of his penis, but he said it didn’t feel uncomfortable or too tight.

We turned on the vibrations, which are nice and rumbly by the way. I am impressed by the lack of buzzy-ness. In use, we found it was best to either pick the setting you want at the start and just not change it or use the mobile app to control it. Trying to press that really firm button when you hands are slipperly or if you’re trying to enjoy sex isn’t worth the effort.

We found that the Lovely cock ring only made good contact with my clit in the missionary or cowgirl sex positions. We flipped it upside down and tried in spooning, doggy style, and a range of other weird rear entry positions that make up our regular sexual sessions, but in non of them did the vibrating part of the Lovely Cock Ring reach my clit.

Just concentrating on the positions where it did give me some stimulation, I’m sad to report that it just wasn’t powerful enough or precise enough to do much for me. I didn’t orgasm, or even come close. I don’t want to be too critical of the Lovely cock ring for this, however, because in my opinion, all cock rings are sorted of flawed because a) it’s almost impossible to keep them in contact with your clit at all times during PiV sex (which is what I need from vibrators to come), and b) they reduce the amount of penis that is able to penetrate, and if you’re a fan of deep penetration that is a problem.

I also tried using the Lovely Cock Ring solo as a clit vibrator, to see if I could come from it if it was in constant contact and I could move it how I needed to. Unfortunately, I still had no orgasmic joy when using it solo. It’s just not powerful enough for a broad stimulator; I either need precision or a lot of power to orgasm from clitoral stimulation.

Although the vibrations from the Lovely Cock Ring weren’t powerful or precise enough to do much for me, my partner really enjoyed them. He could feel the vibrations through the ring around his cock, and he could definitely tell they were my rumble than buzz. He said that other cock rings we have used have had buzzier motors and tighter fits that have ended up reducing his sensitivity or making him almost numb. In comparison, the Lovely Cock Ring actually did the opposite; it felt really good to him and increase the sensations he was feeling. So it’s a winner for him!

Cleaning the Lovely Cock Ring

It’s silicone and waterproof, so clean up should be easy, right? Well it is, I can clean it in warm water and soap. However, they’ve branded it on one side with LOVELY in raised letters surrounded by an indented rectangle. On the inside of the ring is one of those don’t throw this in the bin and a CE symbol indented in the silicone. Both of these areas are difficult ( and annoying) to clean. I find I need to scrub them with a tooth brush to get them properly clean.

Exploring the App

When you first set up the app it will ask you to fill in details about yourself, including your gender (male, female or other), body traits (height, weight and age), and then it will you to the “desire picker” page. This has bubbles that you can click on to select, which the app will then use to tailor the information it gives you to the kinds of things your interested in. You can click on as many categories as you like. The categories are: Oral, Foreplay, Erotic Intelligence, Intimacy, Rough Sex, Passionate Sex, Threesomes, BDSM and Bedroom Atmosphere. Finally, you can invite your partner to download the app and link your profile to theirs.

After you’ve used the Lovely Cock Ring, you can sync it will the app and it will record the length of the session you’ve had. Please be aware that if you turn the Lovely Cock Ring on, to just test the settings or play about with it at all, it will record this as if its a sexual session. This isn’t a surprise really, as how would you expect it to know if its on a penis or not? However, this means that I’ve confused it in to thinking that my sexual sessions are very short, leading it to recommend that I try edging, whoops!

Once synced, you’ll be able to view the times you’ve used the Lovely on a kind of timeline in the “Discover” section of the app. There are three tabs at the top of the Discover section, labelled “Mindful”, “Sensual”, and “Passionate”. You can click on each of these setting and they will give you a tip, or a sexual thing to try, or a communication exercise to try with you partner. You can only do this once a day, but that’s still quite a lot to explore. Overall, I think these are a great way to encourage people to communicate more with their sexual partners and to give them ideas of things they might want to try in the bedroom. I’ve screen shotted a few examples of tips that were given to me.

It’ll ask you to rate each tip afterwards with a smiley face code, which I’m guessing helps the app learn what kind of suggestions you enjoy hearing. The problem is you have to rate it right away, it’d be good if you could go back after you’d tried to do the thing then rate it.

You can share all of this information with you partner. Overall, I’m impressed with this part of the app. The last part of the app is called “your lovely” which wants you to pay a subscription fee to get access to expert advise and tutorials. This is not a part of the app that I was able to explore, so I can’t comment on how it works.

As a sex blogger I’m aware of a lot of sexual acts and play, as I follow a lot of other sex bloggers and I’m naturally drawn to sex related articles, so it is difficult for me to judge how useful the advice and tips on the Your Lovely app actually are to your standard member of the public. For me, I’d heard them all before and didn’t learning anything new (funnily enough, it recommended we try sideway 69 on the evening of a day when we’d actually don’t that very act a couple of hours before). But even if you have heard of what they are suggesting before, I think it’s still likely that it will help people open a dialogue with their sexual partners about the kinds of sex they enjoy or would like to explore more of.

Conclusions

Overall, I think the Lovely Cock Ring and app are excellent. Although the cock ring did very little for me, my partner really enjoyed the sensations it gave him. The motor is rumbly, if not powerful enough to me, and it’s made from good quality materials with a great charging station. The app is the main value of this product, and it is what is most interesting about it. The ability to explore different ideas for sex, mixed in with some sex education and communication exercises is a really good idea. It’s also a really good and easy to use remote control. And it’s free to use even if you don’t buy the cock ring! I wouldn’t say the cock ring is “desire sensing”, but perhaps I just haven’t been using it enough to unlock its full potential. It is such a shame that the cock ring does absolutely nothing for me. If it did I’m sure I’d have loads of fun adding each session to the app.

In my opinion, anything that gets people communicating their desires more with their partners, and educates them about sex and gives them ideas of how to explore sex is a great idea, and for that I praise the Lovely App. I think there is probably more to it than I have been able to give you here, and I will try to add more detail to this review in the future.
